5,000 Tewkesbury households to receive one-to-one lifestyle advice from Count Me In!
Thousands of selected Tewkesbury borough households will receive a FREE visit from a team of Count Me In! travel advisers over the next few months.
The selected households will receive information and guidance on how to become more healthy, including access to active travel, leisure walks and cycle rides, as well as upcoming local community activities such as exercise and dance events.
The team of travel advisers will begin visiting households this week (May 24th) and aim to have completed 5,000 homes by August 27th.
The selected households will receive letters informing them of their pre-selection and letting them know when the CMI travel adviser is hoping to visit. It’s entirely up to each household if they want to take part – but each visit takes only a few minutes and will help get families on course for a healthier lifestyle.
CMI urges all households taking part to check the identity of the callers, ensuring that they are genuine travel advisers – each will have Count Me In! photo identification – please see the 'News' section of the CMI website for further information on this protocol.
The Travel Adviser project is part of the Count Me In! programme – a Government-funded initiative to encourage Tewkesbury Borough residents to live more active lives. Doctors recommend that adults need 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity at least five days per week to maintain a good level of fitness. Many people find it difficult to fit activity into busy daily routines, but Count Me In! is providing lots of easy ways to get active.
Sarah Williams from Count Me In!, said: “For some of us, the idea of gyms or keep fit classes might sound too much like hard work, but many everyday activities can help us get the right amount of exercise needed to remain healthy – housework or gardening are just as important as walking and cycling instead of using the car for regular short journeys. The travel advisers won’t be lecturing, they will simply be on hand to let people know what activities are taking places that they can get involved with – many of which are free!”
