Count Me in! launches Well-being@Work programme for Tewkesbury businesses

Tewkesbury businesses are being invited to sign-up to a well-being scheme which will improve the health of employees - reducing sick days, which currently cost employers £692 per employee, per year.

The Well-being@Work Award Scheme - a free initiative open to all public, private and third sector businesses in Tewkesbury – is being launched by Count Me In! in association with VISION Culture CIC this month (October) and will run until March 2011.

Tewkesbury businesses who sign-up for the scheme will receive professional help and support to introduce new ways to improve the health and well-being of their workforce. These can range from developing travel plans which encourage staff to walk or cycle to work, organising quit smoking groups, providing healthier food choices in the canteen and raising awareness of mental health issues in the workplace.

Adrian Jevans from Count me In! said: “This scheme is an excellent opportunity for business owners in Tewkesbury to utilise a free service which will not only improve the health of the workforce, but also, potentially save the business money in the long run. We encourage interested businesses to sign-up as soon as possible.”

The award scheme covers 10 key aims, which are tailored to businesses depending on size, number of employees, facilities available and geographical location.

The 10 key aims are:-

  • To promote positive mental health
  • To move towards a smoke-free working environment
  • To promote healthier eating
  • To promote increased physical activity
  • To promote work-life balance
  • To promote a supportive work environment for the older worker
  • To promote a workforce from a diverse population
  • To promote Sickness Absence Management
  • To promote health improvement through support systems
  • To promote health and well-being through training and development

The scheme is designed to aid not only the employee, but also the employer who benefits from decreased levels of absenteeism, increased productivity, reduced stress and improved overall health of workforce. The annual sickness absence is on average 7.4 days per employee, an annual cost to businesses of £692* per employee.

The Well-being@Work Award Scheme is funded by Count Me In! - the Government's Healthy Towns Initiative. Businesses who would like more information about Well-being@Work, should email amy@visioncic.com or visit www.countmeintewkesbury.com or www.visioncic.com
