Count Me In! urges Tewkesbury residents to put their best foot forward with town walking maps

To mark the National ITV Walk 4 Life Day on Sunday (September 26), Count Me In! - the Healthy Towns programme for Tewkesbury - is unveiling a series of town-wide maps designed to encourage residents to walk more for a healthier life.

Count Me In! Walking MapsFive detailed maps have been created by Count Me In! in association with Walk England and Active Gloucestershire. The maps cover each of the five wards within the Count Me In! Programme - Wheatpieces & Walton Cardiff, Newtown, Mitton & Town Centre, Priors Park and Northway. The maps will be unveiled at a series of ward events over the next six weeks, beginning with Priors Park on Saturday (September 25th).

Each map boasts five different routes showing accessible and attractive walks for every age and ability.

Rhiannon Herbert, from Count Me In! said: “The maps are an ideal way of encouraging people to walk more, helping them to discover their local area whilst getting fit and healthy at the same time. We hope they will encourage people to make the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle, by getting out and about in the community.”

The Priors Park map will be unveiled on Saturday as part of the Priors Park Neighbourhood Project awareness day to promote community services and mark the overhaul of the PPNP offices on Queens Road.

From 11am until 3pm there will be demonstrations from the local boxing group, Citizens' Advice Bureau, the County Community Project, Gloucestershire Constabulary, Age UK, Noah's Arc Children's Centre, Tewkesbury Youth Club, Breakfast and AfterSchool club and a health trainer. Count Me In! team members will hold Tai Chi demonstrations and promote new activity classes for the over 50s.

Additional ward walking events and map unvielings will be held on October 12th and October 15th and details will be publicised on the Count Me In! website at www.countmeintewkesbury.com. Residents will be able to download a map for their area from the Count Me In! website at www.countmeintewkesbury.com/walking or can pick them up from local venues including GP surgeries, libraries, council offices, schools and community centres.

Count Me In! is on the lookout for walk leaders. Free training will be given to people who would like to lead the health walks in their local area. For more information, please contact Anj Patel on 01684 272190.
