Get in shape with Count Me In! in 2010

People in Tewkesbury can get fit in 2010 by signing up for one of the new Count Me In! courses being launched this month.

During January the Count Me In! programme will launch two new fitness classes – Tai Chi and a women’s running club for beginners.

The new Tai Chi class is open to adults of all ages and involves gentle exercise which can reduce stress, improve balance, help control emotions, rejuvenate body, mind and spirit and increase energy, agility and flexibility.

The six-week taster course starts on January 28, and will be held between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at Tewkesbury Sports Centre. Sessions cost £4 each and must be booked in advance by calling Rachel Jennings on 01684 272246 or 07887 831878.

For those determined to improve their fitness, Count Me In! and the Women’s Running Network will launch a new beginner’s running course. The 10-week course begins on Tuesday, 19th January at 7pm starting from Cascades Swimming Pool, Tewkesbury.

The course costs £40 and includes weekly tuition from a fully qualified instructor, a t-shirt, water bottle, log book and membership for a year to the Women’s Running Network. Kerry Newell from the Women’s Running Network, said: “This course is designed for complete beginners – women of all ages, sizes and shapes! The programme begins with walking and slow jogging before slowly progressing in pace with the group. It is great relaxed fun and is perfect for women who are keen to get fit with the support of others.

“We ran the course last year and it was such a success that 90% of the women are continuing to run through the network in 2010.”

On completion of the course, women can join the network’s running group on Tuesday evenings at 6pm for just £2 per session. These sessions are open to runners of all levels and begin at Cascades. For more details about the running course, contact Kerry Newell on 01452 813611.
