Hamper prizes for 'evaluated' residents
Five lucky Tewkesbury residents received a host of prizes this week after completing a town-wide community survey.
During the summer 8,750 homes across the town received a survey questioning their views on eating healthy foods, transport, and physical activity.
Those who completed the first stage of the survey, which is partly funded through the town’s Count Me In! programme, were entered into a prize draw to win luxury hampers and family tickets to the town’s Heritage and Visitor Centre.
The lucky winners, who were picked at random from the thousands of completed surveys, attended a prize presentation this week at Tewkesbury Library.
Winners were Kerry Sykes, Geoffrey Guy, Mark Downing, John Roberts and Deitra Carmichael.
The hampers included a mix of local foodstuffs sourced from The Hat Shop, books about the town and tickets to Tewkesbury Heritage and Visitor Centre.
Mark Downing of Knights Way, Tewkesbury was delighted to win a hamper.
He said: “I was really surprised to find out I’d won, as you never really expect to be the lucky one when you enter these things. Ever since the floods I’ve taken a real interest in anything which may affect the town and was happy to complete the survey, after all if you don’t express your opinions, you can’t expect anything to improve.”
The results from the survey, which was the first of three in an evaluation process, are being collated by the University of Gloucestershire and used to gauge the success of the Change4Life-inspired Count Me In! health programme which is sweeping the town.
Evaluation leader Dr Diane Crone, said: “More than 2,000 people completed the questionnaire and we would like to express our thanks to all of them for taking the time to fill it out. It is really important to understand whether the Count Me In! programme is making a difference to Tewkesbury and the survey will help us determine this.”
The University is working in partnership with the Primary Care Trust, Tewkesbury Borough Council and local stakeholders on the two-year project.
